Linking Blog Posts to Recipes
Linking a recipe to a Shopify blog post is what makes the recipe card appear on that post automatically.
Linking a recipe
- Open your recipe in Recipe Kit
- Go to the Resources section
- Choose the blog, if you have more than one
- Search for and select the blog post
- Save
That is the whole connection. Any page with the Recipe Kit block on it now shows this recipe when a visitor reads that post.
Creating the blog post from the recipe
If the post does not exist yet, Recipe Kit can create it:
- In Resources, choose to create a blog post
- The recipe title becomes the post title and the description becomes the starting content
- The post is created in your default blog
- Edit it in Shopify to add your story, then publish
Getting the card to show
Linking on its own is half the job. The blog post template also needs the Recipe Kit block:
- Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize
- Select Blog posts > Default blog post from the page dropdown
- Click Add block in the main content area
- Select Recipe Kit
- Position it where you want the card and click Save
Do this once and it applies to every blog post on that template.

Both live in Recipe Kit Settings.

Syncing recipe data to the post
Each recipe can push two things to its linked blog post when you save:

| Update blog post image | Uses the recipe image as the blog post's featured image |
Both are per-recipe toggles in the Resources section, and both can be set in bulk through the update_blog_post_tags and update_blog_post_image columns in a CSV import.
Managing links
Open the recipe and look at Resources to see what it is linked to, change the link, or remove it. A recipe can link to more than one blog post if you need it to.
Recipes on pages that are not blog posts
You are not limited to blog posts. Add the Recipe Kit block to any page in the theme editor and enter the Recipe ID in the block settings to choose which recipe shows. That works on product pages, landing pages and the home page, with no linking required.
Blog posts are the exception where you can leave the Recipe ID blank, because the link tells Recipe Kit which recipe to use. See Setting Up the Recipe Widget.
Two ways to work
Recipe first. Build the recipe in Recipe Kit, create the linked post from it, then add your story to the post. Good when the recipe is the point.
Post first. Write the blog post, then create the recipe and link it to the existing post. Good when the story is the point and the recipe supports it.
Either way, the post carries the narrative and the recipe card carries the structured data Google reads.
Troubleshooting
No card on the post. Check the recipe is Published, that the link exists in Resources, and that the Recipe Kit block is on the template that post uses. See Widget Not Showing.
Wrong recipe showing. Remove the link and add the correct one. If the block has a Recipe ID set, that overrides the article link, so clear the Recipe ID on blog post templates.
