Linking Products to Recipes

Connecting recipe ingredients to products in your store is what turns a recipe from content into a sales channel.

Why bother

For the customer, it removes the step where they read your recipe, note down six ingredients, and go looking for them one at a time. For you, it turns recipe traffic into cart value.

Linking an ingredient

1. Open your recipe in Recipe Kit
2. Go to the Ingredients section
3. Click the product icon beside an ingredient
4. Search for the product and select it
5. Repeat for the others
6. Save

Linked ingredients get an Add to Cart button on the recipe card, on Advanced and Enterprise plans. On Free and Essentials the link is stored and the product thumbnail can display, but there is no cart button.

How the relationships work

One recipe, many products. Link as many ingredients as you sell. Each gets its own button.

One product, many recipes. A staple like olive oil or flour can be linked from every recipe that uses it. Nothing is exclusive.

Add All to Cart

Rather than making a customer click six buttons, switch on Add All to Cart in Settings > Features. One button, everything linked, one click.

Managing links

Open the recipe and look at the Ingredients section. Linked ingredients show which product they point at, and the same product icon lets you change or remove the link. Save afterwards.

Getting it right

Link what you actually sell. A link to a product you do not stock is worse than no link.

Match the size. If the recipe wants 200g and you sell 5kg sacks, say so in the ingredient note. A surprised customer abandons the cart.

Check the variant. Products with variants add the first available one unless the customer picks another. Make sure that default is sensible.

Do not half-do it. A recipe with two of eight ingredients linked looks broken. Either link everything you sell or leave the recipe alone.

Where linked recipes display

Recipe cards display wherever you place the Recipe Kit block: blog posts, product pages, landing pages, the home page. On blog posts the recipe is detected automatically from the link; anywhere else you enter the Recipe ID in the block settings.

Linking a product to an ingredient does not put the recipe on that product's page by itself. If you want a recipe on a product page, add the Recipe Kit block to your product template and set the Recipe ID. See Setting Up the Recipe Widget.
