The Free plan
Recipe Kit has a Free plan. It is a real plan, not a trial that runs out, and for a store with a handful of recipes it may be all you need.
What you get
- Up to 5 recipes
- All six card designs: Hero, Editorial, Classic, Compact, Card and Card Vertical
- Google Recipe Schema on every recipe, so your recipes can show as rich results in search
- Print, share and 5 star ratings
- Cook mode and click to check
- Recipes on any page, not just blog posts
- Ingredients linked to products. The link is saved and the product thumbnail can show, but there is no Add to Cart button.
- Recipe import from your existing blog posts, or from a URL, photo, PDF or pasted text. Free stores can have 5 imported recipes at a time across every source. Deleting an imported recipe frees its slot.
- CSV export, on every plan
- Every label on the card, renamed or translated by hand under Settings > Translations & Labels
- Analytics for views, adds to cart, prints and shares, covering the last 30 days
- Three AI recipe drafts every 30 days, counted from your first draft
- Three AI nutrition analyses a month
Nothing on the card is watermarked.

The 5 recipe cap
You can create up to 5 recipes. When you reach the cap, Recipe Kit stops you creating a sixth and points you to the plans.
Nothing is deleted and nothing is hidden. All 5 keep working as before.
The cap counts recipes, not blog posts, and Hidden recipes count too. If you are experimenting, delete test recipes rather than setting them to Hidden.
If you downgrade to Free with more than 5 recipes
Your recipes stay and keep showing on your store. Nothing is removed. You cannot create new ones until you are back under 5 or on a paid plan again.
Who the Free plan suits
A store with a few signature recipes. Five recipes done properly, with images and every field filled in, will do more for you than fifty half-finished ones.
Trying Recipe Kit out properly. Build a real recipe, put it on a real blog post, and see how it looks in your theme and on a phone. That tells you more than a trial clock.
A store that does not sell the ingredients. If shoppable recipes are not the point for you, the Free plan covers the rest.
When to upgrade
People upgrade for two reasons:
You ran out of recipes. Essentials removes the cap and adds CSV import.
You want to sell the ingredients. Growth adds Add to Cart, plus revenue analytics so you can see what your recipes earn. Revenue tracking starts once you click Turn on sales tracking on the Analytics page.
To upgrade, open Recipe Kit and go to Settings. At the bottom, the Upgrade your plan card has an Upgrade plan button that opens Shopify's plan page. An upgrade takes effect as soon as you confirm it. See Managing your subscription.
