Blog categories in your navigation menu

Add menu links such as "Vegetarian recipes" or "Desserts" that open a page listing every recipe post with that tag. You tag your blog posts, then link to the tag's page from your store menu.

This uses Shopify's own blog tags, so it works on every plan with no extra app.

Tag your recipe posts

You can tag posts from Recipe Kit or from Shopify.

From Recipe Kit:

  1. Open the recipe in Recipe Kit.
  2. Add your tags to Keywords, for example vegetarian.
  3. Make sure Add keywords as blog post tags below Keywords is ticked. It is on by default.
  4. Click Save. The keywords are copied to the connected blog post as tags.

From Shopify:

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Content > Blog posts.
  2. Open the post.
  3. Type the tag in the Tags box. Separate several tags with commas.
  4. Click Save.

Add a tag link to your menu

Every tag has its own page at this address:

/blogs/your-blog-handle/tagged/your-tag

So if your blog is at /blogs/recipes and the tag is vegetarian, the page is /blogs/recipes/tagged/vegetarian. Shopify turns spaces and capitals in a tag into lowercase words joined by hyphens, so the tag Gluten Free lives at /blogs/recipes/tagged/gluten-free.

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Content > Menus.
  2. Open the menu you want, for example Main menu.
  3. Click Add menu item.
  4. In Label, type the text shoppers will see, for example "Vegetarian recipes".
  5. In Link, type the tag page address, for example /blogs/recipes/tagged/vegetarian.
  6. Save the menu item, then click Save menu.

To group several categories, drag the new items under one parent item, such as "Recipes", to make a dropdown.

Link a category on the recipe card

The Category and Cuisine fields in the recipe editor have a link button. Select the text, click the link button and paste a tag page address, and the category on the recipe card becomes a link to all recipes with that tag.
