Blog comments and written reviews
Recipe Kit's star ratings let readers score a recipe out of five, and the average puts stars on your Google results. To let readers also write a review, ask a question or share a substitution, add comments with our companion app, Better Blog Comments.
Star ratings are free on every plan. Better Blog Comments is a separate app on the Shopify App Store.
What Better Blog Comments adds
Better Blog Comments replaces Shopify's basic blog comments. It adds:
- Ratings and written reviews together. A reader's Recipe Kit star rating and their comment show as one review.
- Email notifications when someone comments or replies.
- Replies from you, so a comment becomes a conversation.
- Threaded comments, so readers can reply to each other.
- Spam protection, with an optional CAPTCHA.
- Comment import from a CSV file, if you are moving from another platform.
The Recipe Kit team makes both apps, so they are built to work together.

Why written reviews help a recipe blog
- They answer other readers' questions. "I used almond flour and it worked" saves you an email and helps the next reader.
- They keep the page fresh. New comments give search engines a reason to visit again.
- They add content you did not have to write. A popular recipe collects tips and variations from people who cooked it.
