Controlling Recipe Display Order

Recipe Kit displays recipes based on their linked blog post's publish date. Change the order by adjusting blog post dates in Shopify.

How Ordering Works

When Recipe Kit displays recipes (such as in the Related Recipes add-on or recipe lists), they're ordered by the publish date of their linked blog post. Newer posts appear first.

This means you control recipe order through Shopify's blog post settings, not within Recipe Kit itself.

Changing Recipe Order

  1. Go to Online Store > Blog posts in your Shopify admin
  2. Find the blog post linked to the recipe you want to reorder
  3. Click to edit the blog post
  4. In the right sidebar, find Visibility
  5. Click Set publish date
  6. Change the date and time
  7. Click Save

Recipes with more recent publish dates will appear before those with older dates.

Tips for Managing Order

Moving a Recipe to the Top

Set its blog post's publish date to today or a future date (if you want it scheduled).

Moving a Recipe Down

Set its blog post's publish date to an earlier date than other recipes.

Keeping a Fixed Order

Use specific dates to maintain your preferred order:

  • Recipe you want first: January 10, 2025
  • Recipe you want second: January 9, 2025
  • Recipe you want third: January 8, 2025

Future-Dating Posts

You can set a publish date in the future to:

  • Schedule when a recipe becomes visible
  • Ensure it appears at the top when published

Finding Linked Blog Posts

If you're unsure which blog post is linked to a recipe:

  1. Open the recipe in Recipe Kit
  2. Go to the Resources tab
  3. The linked blog post is shown there
  4. Click it to go directly to the Shopify blog post

Common Questions

Q: Can I change order without changing publish dates? No, recipe display order is determined by blog post publish dates in Shopify. This is by design, as it keeps your recipes synchronized with your blog content.

Q: Does changing the date affect SEO? Changing publish dates can affect how search engines perceive content freshness. For SEO purposes, only change dates when necessary.

Q: What if I don't have a linked blog post? Recipes without linked blog posts won't appear in ordered lists. Link each recipe to a blog post to control its position.
